Welcome to the Department of Physics, School of Science, Kathmandu University. The main aim of the department is to provide a stimulating and kind environment for its students. It is well known that the knowledge of physics helps us to know how something works and explains the reason when it fails to do so.
The department offers exciting courses such as B. Sc. in Applied Physics and M. Sc. in General Physics along with regular M. Phil. and Ph. D. programs to conduct research in the fields of Low Temperature Plasma Physics and Material Science. The moderate size of our department allows our faculty to work with students on one-on-one basis to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. Our students have excellent working relationship with faculty in a training atmosphere that is often difficult to attain in general. Our faculty has one task: to provide quality teaching with innovative research. Conferences, workshops and seminars are regularly organized and collaborative linkages with national and international organizations are an important part of our policy. In view of growing importance of computers and computing, special emphasis is placed on learning and application of computing tools via high performance computing (HPC) facility at the university.
